Progress 8

Progress 8 was introduced in 2016 as the headline indicator of school performance. It aims to capture the progress a pupil makes from the end of primary school to the end of Key Stage 4. It is a type of value-added measure, which means that pupils’ results are compared to the progress of other pupils nationally with similar prior attainment. The 2022 Progress 8 score will be updated when Attainment 8 estimates are released by the DFE (October 2022).

2020 and 2021:

Centre Assessed Grades (CAGs) were awarded in 2020 and Teacher Assessed Grades (TAGs) were awarded in 2021.
The results and data of the CAGs and TAGs were not published in the public domain.

*The English Baccalaureate (EBacc) is a performance measure for schools, awarded when pupils secure a grade C or above at GCSE level across a core of five academic subjects – English, mathematics, history or geography, two sciences and a language. It is not a qualification in itself. From 2017 the EBacc will be measured at grade 5 and above.
