Vision

To provide pupils with the knowledge they need to keep themselves and others safe, and to develop into responsible Global Citizens, aware of issues in the world around them, motivated and empowered to make a difference.

Aim

The aim of the Personal Development Curriculum (PDC) at Lord Derby Academy is to enable students to become effective members of society, able and willing to contribute to the wider community, with a strong moral compass. Our PDC curriculum raises awareness of real-life issues and helps our pupils to develop an understanding of the world around them. It is designed to help equip our pupils with the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values needed to lead healthy independent lives, and become informed, active and responsible citizens.

Our Personal Development Curriculum builds upon the key curriculum values at Lord Derby Academy. Topics included are designed to provide opportunities for our pupils to:

  • Instil positive character traits and values
  • Understand how to nurture well-being of oneself and others
  • Learn how to be safe and healthy
  • Expand knowledge of the world around them
  • Invoke curiosity and aspiration
  • Reflect on personal viewpoints, and those national and global issues
  • Develop the key attributes needed to be a Global Citizen

  • British Values and The Protected Characteristics
  • Equality, inclusivity and diversity
  • How to look after physical and mental health
