The Pupil Premium Grant
In 2015/2016, the Pupil Premium Deprivation Grant estimated allocation to Lord Derby Academy is £473,967 which equates to 503 pupils and is worth £935 per pupil.
The Pupil Premium is grant funding and is in addition to the School’s Delegated Budget. It is allocated to children from low-income families, children who have been looked after continuously for more than six months and children with parent(s) in the Armed Forces. Pupil Premium Funding is used to raise attainment, promote social skills, independent learning and positive behaviour in order to increase pupil progress.
Pupil Premium Funding is used to raise attainment, promote social skills, independent learning and positive behaviour in order to increase pupil progress. The Government believes that the Pupil Premium, which is additional to main school funding, is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between children eligible for free school meals (FSM) and their peers by ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the pupils who need it most.
In most cases the Pupil Premium is allocated to schools and is clearly identifiable. It is for the school to decide how the Pupil Premium is spent. However, schools will be held accountable for how they have used the additional funding to support pupils from low-income families. New measures will be included in the performance tables that will capture the achievement of the pupils covered by the Pupil Premium.
At Lord Derby Academy we target additional support strategies to enable every student, however financially disadvantaged, to:
- Encourage a love of learning
- Improve their levels of progress and attainment
- Close attainment gaps relative to school averages
- Have full access to the curriculum
- Access extra-curricular provision
- Provide additional support to eligible families
At Lord Derby Academy we have directed the funding to support the following interventions:
- Booster and 1:1 intervention Classes
- Hobbies/Interests
- Incentives
- Mentoring/staffing
- Personal resources including ICT support
- Trips and Residential Visits
- Uniform
- Literacy/Numeracy additional support
Curriculum and Pastoral additional Funding
During the school year curriculum areas and year teams are given the opportunity to apply for additional funds to support students eligible for pupil premium funding. This funding covers a wide range of strategies and interventions not covered by other school funding and includes financial support for trips and educational visits; resources to support students in the classroom or at home and learning and revision guides to support students as they work towards GCSEs and other qualification.

Projects taking place in 2015–2016
We have detailed below how we intend to spend next year’s allocation per student. Currently we are running attendance incentives and we are helping students with school uniform, PE kit and specialist uniform required for BTEC courses. Booster classes and 1-1 interventions are in place, Duke of Edinburgh Award, a team building day and camp is planned for our Year 7 students and also a Summer School planned for August. These initiatives will continue in the coming years.
